Special Ministries Highlight: Committee on Mental Health Needs

Here is a highlight of an arm of ministry in our church body. It’s called the Committee on Mental Health Needs and it provides guidance, resources and assistance to WELS churches and members as they minister to one another in love. The committee provides information to sort out the many kinds of counseling that therapists may use. To learn more about WELS Committee on Mental Health Needs, go to www.wels.net/cmhn.

Below is a short message from our special ministry coordinator. I pray it’s a blessing to you

Pastor Kehl

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging”. (Psalm 46:1-3)

The unexpected: tornados, floods, earthquakes, community violence, community loss. Events such as these shake your life emotionally, physically, relationally, and cause profound pain in your, your family’s, or your community’s lives. WELS Committee on Mental Health Needs coordinates with multiple resources during these troublesome times. Organizations such as Christian Family Solutions provide counselors to quickly respond, help, and support those who are affected by tragedy. Some examples of help rendered are in Moore, Oklahoma after the 2013 tornados, Nepal earthquakes of April 2015, and during local traumatic losses in the community.  Brothers and sisters in Christ are ready to support and aid those in need. You can share in the experiences of two CFS counselors, Anita Smith and John Schuetze, who responded to Nepal’s earthquake by going to Nepal and providing direct care. Anita’s blog, “The Longest Day or Two….” is the first of four blogs sharing their experiences in helping the victims in Nepal. You can view them at: https://christianfamilysolutions.org/2016/11/27/the-longest-day-or-two/.
