Built like an (elastic) building

Ephesians 2:21–22 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
But what good is a building with nothing in it? We’ll, it becomes a structure without purpose and without purpose it becomes wasted space. It grows cobwebs, and fills with dust, and given enough time it will end up breaking down becoming an eyesore, and more of a burden of whoever is responsible for it. The greatest is worthless if it has no purpose.
Right now, our understanding of “being joined together” is challenged. Where we are meeting hasn’t been the place we anticipated meeting- at “church” Crown of Life 11721 Morrison Rd. There’s something about the closeness in proximity to one another and gathering at a specific time and place that fosters the idea of being built together. It’s like a group or a club. Everyone excitedly joins together, all playing a part, and just from observation, I can tell you when we are together we are rejuvenated by it. When we are loosely connected people begin to feel lonely. It can feel like we aren’t really connected to a purpose when it comes to that group. And it can feel like that right now. Our building is for the most part empty. Worship isn’t as rejuvenating over the internet. No real connection.
Are we crumbling?
Far from it! See what the Holy Spirit has done in us by working faith into our hearts? He’s created a structure that is not limited by the proximity to one another or even limited to time. Throughout the world and time, believers are built into this architectural masterpiece Ephesians calls the holy temple. It’s almost this elastic temple that follows believers wherever they are and God uses it to house his Spirit.
The songs we sing in our sanctuary are powerful, so is the responsive liturgy. But the Spirit of God living in all of our hearts- that’s powerful! Lean in on the temple of which you are apart. Believe that you are part of something that is infinitely important and purposeful! You are connected in a way where nothing can separate you from the love of your heavenly Father.
With one faith in Christ, we can flex our holy temple muscles through zoom, phone, and online worship. Then celebrate it the day we’re rejuvenated once again face to face.
Stay connected to the Word!
God’s Peace
