“It was a start!” That’s a way of saying, “It’s not where we end up.” It felt like the first day on the job. Everything was just foreign enough to where it throws you off. It takes a moment to think, “How do I do this?” The consequence, it doesn’t feel right. It doesn’t feel the same, but we didn’t expect that it would. Singing in masks: not a pleasant experience unless you enjoy your mouth drying out and the slightest feeling of asphyxiation. Nor was the still invisible barrier of physical distancing we are all asked to maintain. We were together, but not in the same way that we once were.
Let’s say there were things that made it difficult to come back and get that warm fuzzy feeling, like going home after a long day and resting in your favorite chair or settling into the comfort of your nightly routine.
Something Special
BUT as awkward as it was, what was there was special. Though muffled, singing we once again got to proclaim Biblical truths through song together!
Maybe selfishly, I got to preach to people directly (even though they all looked like bandits) and I got to participate along with you. We celebrated the Lord’s supper in which Jesus gives us himself, the forgiveness of sins.
Psalm 107:9 For he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.
Next-steps
We will continue with in-person worship next week. You will see adjustments and changes. If you have any suggestions feel free to share them. Again, we will keep recording our online services, and don’t feel obligated to come if you are not comfortable yet, but we do appreciate the ones who are willing to endure the adjustment process as we aim towards worship together as a congregation.
Here is a link for next Sunday if you are interested in joining us in-person. Signing up just helps us plan for how to best manage space in the sanctuary. Sign up here
God’s Peace!
