We’re Building up to This

*Note- Easter Resources at the bottom*

What a unique time. The Lenten season has a different pace at which we function than most other times of the church year. We’re not to Holy Week yet, but when we get there all the services have us sitting- sitting around tables for Maundy Thursday Seder Meal, sitting in pews for Good Friday worship. At least for me, it all feels different. I’m a little antsy as I sit through those days for one reason- I’m waiting for something. Consider how much of a blessing that is…
Matthew 27:59–61  tells us, “Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60 and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away. 61 Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb.”
Mary and Martha were sitting there, and my guess is that it wasn’t to see something great, but was in disbelief.  Jesus has just been crucified and put into the tomb. There wasn’t much for which to wait. They sat wondering how they were going to say their biggest goodbye.
The short of it was their type of sitting had them preparing for the death of the church. They were ready to bury their Savior and say, “It is what it is.” Goodness, were they wrong!
Here is what makes us antsy- we know we’re waiting for something fantastic. When something fantastic is coming it changes how you wait. When you wait for fireworks you gather your family and friends to wait with you. When you wait for a new child, you wait for the moment you can publish that good news to the world.
In our case, when Jesus goes into the grave it’s like a seed planted in the ground and we wait for something miraculous to bust out of it.
We’re sitting on a month from Easter, and we’re not sitting on our hands during it. Sitting and waiting takes a lot of preparation. It’s the greatest fireworks we’ve seen- Christ Rising- and we know it’s coming. We get the benefit of knowing something great is going to happen and the time to invite people to sit with us and witness it!
Here are resources to help us prepare for one Victorious Day!
